Actinic Keratoses are areas of sun damage that are pre-cancerous. If left along they can turn into a type of skin cancer called Squamous Cell Carcinoma. They occur in sun-exposed areas, the scalp, ears, face and hands being the most common sites. They typically present as a rough, scaly red spot. Individual lesion are often destroyed with a freezing spray (liquid nitrogen), larger areas may require Blue Light treatment in the office or a prescription cream. Sunscreen helps prevent these growths.
