Online Dermatology Visits – Frequently Asked Questions
Is online care available only for certain conditions?
Our online dermatologists are trained to diagnose and treat over 3,000 medical conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails. The most common conditions are acne, eczema and rosacea. Depending on the case, the doctor may determine that an in-office diagnostic or
therapeutic procedure is needed to best address the condition. That in-office visit would be outside of online visits, and payment or insurance coverage for those services would be separate.
Do not use online visits in the event of an emergency. In case of a medical life threatening emergency, dial 911 immediately.
Please note that pregnant or nursing mothers, or those who are trying to become pregnant, are not permitted to conduct an online doctor visit.
How does an online dermatology visit work?
A visit with a dermatologist online is simple. First, create an account with us. Next, answer a few basic questions and provide a brief medical history. Finally, upload photos of your skin, nail, or hair condition. Within what is usually 24 hours (but no more than three business days), you’ll have a diagnosis and treatment plan from a board-certified dermatologist, which includes prescriptions if necessary.
Our online dermatology visit platform is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, even on holidays. Use online visits as a convenient alternative to visiting the dermatologist’s office or as a way to avoid a lengthy wait for an appointment.
On average, patients receive a response from a dermatologist within 24 hours unless a specific dermatologist who may not be able to provide treatment immediately is selected. In this situation, patients are given the option to either select another provider or wait for the preferred doctor to respond. All cases are completed within three business days.
How much does an online dermatology visit cost?
The cost of an online visit is $99. That includes the diagnosis, personalized treatment plan and routing prescriptions to your pharmacy.
(For states that allow e-prescriptions from teledermatology, the doctor will send an order directly to the pharmacy. In other states, the doctor will need to fax the order through their office.)
Is online care covered by insurance?
Teledermatology services are not covered by insurance and it is not billed through this platform. However many patients use their Health Spending Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for qualified treatments.
Patients can submit claims on their own using their associated plan submission form.
How soon can I receive a diagnosis?
You will receive a diagnosis in three business days or less. You can receive counseling from the dermatologist for up to 30 days concerning the diagnosis and treatment for a single condition.
What if I need a biopsy?
If an in-office procedure is needed our staff will contact you to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Our practice offers same day or next day appointments so we can get you in quickly.
Do I need a current skin condition to open an account?
You can create an account at any time. Creating an account now may save time if an issue suddenly arises.
Is my personal health information kept confidential?
Yes, we take patient safety and privacy very seriously. We adhere to the national patient information security standards found in both HIPAA and HITECH regulations, including sharing information with any accepted insurance providers. Patient photos, personal and medical information, video chats, and diagnoses are never made public.
